Final Exam
Question

I have a third class medical with special issuance and will need a second class medical in the next six months. Because of possible delays that could cause my medical certificate to expire before the new one is issued, would it be a good idea to use the BasicMed qualification so that I can keep flying in the meantime?
Answer
This method will likely cost you some additional money, but it would allow you to keep flying under the BasicMed regulations after your current FAA medical expires and during the time your new medical is being reviewed should that happen. Keep in mind that if the second class medical is denied for any reason, you will not be able to fly under BasicMed. Join the discussion >
