Question of the Week
Question

I just obtained my Part 107 remote pilot certificate and I am trying to find the best path to making some money operating drones. Any advice?
Answer
There are many choices when it comes to purchasing a drone for your business, and it might be a good idea to go with a less expensive option until you get your feet wet and find out what you think you might want or need for your purposes. For training, DARTdrones provides online and in-person training and offers a discount to AOPA members. Many other companies offer training products and services, and some drone operators share their knowledge on YouTube. Your drone's manufacturer may provide additional resources, and online forums, many of which are dedicated to specific makes and models, may also be useful. AOPA members looking for drone jobs can join Droners.io and get an extra 3-percent payout on missions. Other hiring services exist as well, and you also can reach out to drone service consumers in your community (such as construction, farming, and real estate). Others who are actively working Part 107 missions may be able to shine some light on what you can expect to charge for a given job. For additional information on these topics, check out AOPA's drone resources, and subscribe to our AOPA Drone Pilot newsletter. Read the full answer and join the discussion >
