Frustration mounts as aircraft registration delays continue
A four-month-plus backlog of aircraft registration applications has left many aircraft owners in a bind. New registration applicants can apply for an extension via email if all documents have been submitted. Existing aircraft registrations can be renewed online, while mailed applications may be rejected if submitted more than six months prior to registration expiration—and may not be processed before expiration if submitted less than five months before the registration expires. The FAA considers airworthiness certificates "ineffective" without a valid registration.

Question of the Week
Question

One of my airport friends is headed to Georgia, and she mentioned something about an "arrival alert notice" that I have never heard of. What is that?
Answer
In addition to standardizing certain airport symbols starting May 19 to alert pilots to potential problem areas, new Arrival Alert Notices will be published the same day. The FAA created this new product to inform pilots headed to 11 airports with a history of wrong-surface landings. The notices include pictures illustrating parallel runways and/or taxiways that have caused confusion. Join the discussion >
